# Infinity

> Infinity is a free AI app for Mac. Ask anything, then follow any part of the answer into its own branch. Chat, build software and run assistants with local or cloud models.

### What is Infinity?
Infinity is a free AI app for Mac where every answer can branch. You ask something, then follow any part of the answer into its own branch, and every path stays where you left it. It has three modes: Chat, Code and Assistant.

### Is Infinity free?
Yes, Infinity is free to download and use. Local models on your Mac are free too. Cloud models are billed by their provider to your own API key or plan; Infinity adds nothing on top.

### Which Macs does Infinity run on?
Infinity needs macOS 14 Sonoma or newer and runs on both Apple silicon and Intel Macs. Some local engines need Apple silicon: MLX, LM Studio and Apple Intelligence.

### Do I need an account?
No. There is no Infinity account and nothing to sign up for. You only sign in to a provider if you choose to use one, like OpenAI or your ChatGPT plan.

### Is there a Windows, Linux or iPhone version?
Not yet. Infinity is Mac-only for now. Tell us if you’d use another platform; it helps us decide what comes next.

### Is Infinity finished?
Infinity is in early testing. It works every day, but expect rough edges and frequent updates. Please report anything odd.

### What does “follow every thought” mean?
It means you never have to choose one direction. Highlight any phrase in an answer and pick Explain, Go deeper, Counterpoint or Example, and Infinity opens that thread as its own branch beside the chat. The main answer stays where it was.

### How is a branch different from a new chat?
A branch keeps everything that came before it and stays connected to where it started. You can see every branch on one map in Canvas view, jump back to any of them, and make any branch the main one.

### What are the suggestions under each answer?
They are next steps Infinity thinks will help: going deeper, comparing, an example, or asking you for details. When a good answer depends on you, it asks a few quick questions first, and you tap your answers.

### Can I ask more than one model at once?
Yes. Ask several sends one message to up to four models, and each answer becomes its own branch you can follow.

### Which AI models does Infinity work with?
Local models through Ollama, LM Studio, MLX LM, vLLM, Jan, llama.cpp and Apple Intelligence, and cloud models from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, OpenRouter, Hugging Face, Groq, Mistral, xAI and Together, or any OpenAI-compatible server. See the setup guides.

### Can I use my ChatGPT or Claude subscription?
Yes. A ChatGPT Plus or Pro plan works through OpenAI’s Codex app, and a Claude Pro or Max plan works through Claude Code. No API key needed. See ChatGPT plan and Claude plan.

### Does Infinity work offline?
Yes, with local models. Chats with Ollama, LM Studio, MLX or Apple Intelligence run entirely on your Mac and need no internet connection.

### Which local model should I start with?
Let Infinity choose: Models by job suggests a model for each job sized for your Mac’s memory. On an 8 GB Mac, start with a 3B or 4B model; with 16 GB or more, 7B to 14B models work well.

### Does Infinity see my chats?
No. There is no Infinity server. Your chats, projects and settings are saved on your Mac, and messages go straight from your Mac to the provider you picked.

### Where are my API keys stored?
In your macOS Keychain, alongside your passwords. They are only ever sent to the provider they belong to.

### Does the app collect analytics?
No. The app has no analytics and no tracking. Crash reports stay on your Mac unless you choose to email one. This website uses analytics only if you accept them. Read the privacy policy.

### What is Infinity Code?
Infinity Code builds and changes software from a description or a folder. It writes a plan, you approve it, and every change is a save point you can go back to. It can use Infinity’s own models or agents like Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode and Pi. More about Code.

### What is Infinity Assistant?
Assistants you message like contacts, each with its own instructions, model, memory and schedules. They ask before doing anything you haven’t allowed. More about Assistant.

### Can Infinity change files on my Mac?
Only in the folders you give it, and only as far as you allow. Assistants ask first by default. Code that runs in a chat answer runs in a sandbox, not on your Mac. Keep backups of anything important while Infinity is in early testing.

### How do I install Infinity?
Download the app, open the file and drag Infinity into Applications. It’s signed and notarized by Apple, so it opens without warnings.

### How does Infinity update?
By itself. New versions download in the background and install when you quit, or straight away from the blue button at the bottom of the sidebar. You can check any time with Infinity ▸ Check for Updates…

### How do I uninstall Infinity?
Quit it and drag Infinity from Applications to the Trash. To remove your chats and settings too, delete ~/Library/Application Support/Infinity, or use Settings ▸ Developer ▸ Reset Infinity first. Downloaded models stay in their own apps’ folders.

### How do I move Infinity to a new Mac?
Use Settings ▸ General ▸ Your data ▸ Export everything on the old Mac, then Import an export on the new one. API keys stay in each Mac’s Keychain, so add them again.
